Does Wing New Town Conflict With the Church's Own Policies?

Wing New Town Action Group questions whether the Diocese of Oxford's development proposals align with the Church's own policies on housing, the environment, heritage and community engagement.

Published: 21 October 2026

The Diocese of Oxford's involvement in the proposed Wing New Town development has raised important questions about how the plans align with the Church of England's own policies and commitments.

Wing New Town Action Group has examined the Church's published positions on affordable housing, environmental protection, land use, heritage and community engagement. The group believes the proposals conflict with several of the principles promoted by the Church and the Diocese.

Among the concerns are the proposed level of affordable housing, the potential loss of high-quality agricultural land, the impact on the historic setting of All Saints Church and Castle Hill, and the extent of community engagement over the proposals.

We've published a dedicated page setting out these concerns in full, including supporting Church policy documents, videos and statements.

The page also provides contact details for representatives of the Diocese of Oxford and the wider Church of England for residents who wish to raise their concerns directly.
